Sussex Coaches Steyning Engineering department:
Our main Workshop site is located at Steyning, and houses a dynamic proficient team of skilled engineers. Our well equipped workshop includes a digital brake testing facility, several sets of mobile column lifts, allowing superior access to the full vehicle, and an automated headlight testing facility, amongst all the usual equipment required to provide a top quality service facility for our fleet. Our team here look after all the major repairs and routine servicing. We also use the fantastic facilities at Scania Gatwick to assist us.
Billingshurst Depot:
At our main depot, we have a small team of dedicated Engineers who look after minor running repairs and oversee immediate safety defects. This team are making sure daily, that vehicles can be dispatched promptly. We also have a fleet of well equipped mobile support vehicles that can provide assistance at either Steyning or Billingshurst or attend roadside repairs.
Vehicle Defects and Breakdowns
Whilst we have every preventative maintenance measure in place, no mechanical product is infallible. Unfortunately, failures can very occasionally occur.
If a vehicle defect occurs the most important thing is to make the right and decisive choices to resolve the situation. We have detailed plans and procedures in place to ensure that your group is safe and back on your way with the most minimal delay possible.
Our first course of action will be to evaluate the circumstances, including but not limited to, the passengers’ safety on board, the vehicle symptoms and likely prognosis, and any associated risks, this will be immediately assessed with a telephone conference with a Senior Manager, our Engineering Team, and the Driver.
We will decide on the fastest repair or replace option and action that promptly. We have fully equipped mobile engineering units that can support a roadside repair by our in-house engineering team if that is deemed the fastest and safest solution. Other options include dispatching a partner mechanical service, or dispatching a replacement vehicle from our own fleet or a partner operator.
We will keep you and any third parties informed of the progress.
Our drivers receive detailed information and training on how to mitigate risks and safeguard both the passengers on board, themselves, and the wider general public.
